Hi everyone. I’m not sure if this article has been posted before, but a search didn’t turn it up, so I thought I'd go ahead and share it.
It was written by Frederick A. McKenzie, author of the famous July 1901 Daily Mail article ‘The Worst Street in London’.
This article, titled 'London's Alsatia- The Truth About Dorset Street, Spitalfields', is written in a similar vein but contains some interesting variations. It was published in the July-September 1901 Toynbee Hall Record.
I’m not sure which article was written first, or if they were written at the same time for publication in two different periodicals. According to John McCarthy, who took offense at McKenzie’s scathing opinion of Dorset Street, McKenzie lived at Toynbee Hall.
Further information will be very welcome.
Best regards,
Archaic
