    I understand that 1888 was a time of geographic change. Is this one of those changes? Would this street be listed under george street?Dave

    Hi Dave, Thanks for your patience. I meant to answer your question 15 years ago but got sidetracked. George Street was renamed Lolesworth Street in 1893.

            LOL. I've actually not seen a reason given. The Lolesworth Buildings had been erected a couple of years before, so I'm sure money and politics played into it. The name 'George Street' had long been notorious by then, so perhaps a bit of cleaning up of the reputation of the area.

                    It was renamed because there were too many George Streets in London according to the retired naming and numbering officer at the current highway authority.
