St George in the East Mortuary

    Hi,

been looking at photos in various places of what looked to be an excellent tour given by Philip at the recent conf. Couldnt help but notice St George's in the East Mortuary seems to be in a terrible state. Am trying to think how long it is since i last saw it. Possibly as far ago as 2006/2007 when i went with a load of bleeping Ripperologists who threatend to chuck me over it (repeatedly before and ever since) anyway, whenever it was to my recollection it looks a lot worse in its state. I know looking over the wall etc and the building has long been a fasniation of certian members of the boards, and so to has it become fascinating to myself. I certainly think it would be an awful shame should it fall down etc.

Which leads me to ask, who owns this building, why is it in such a state, can anything be done to stop it falling over/down?

Some restoration is planned Jenni, just don't know what. There is a display board next to the Mortuary detailing it's history and what the future plan is.

I took these last Friday before the riff raff arrived.

I like the idea of preserving the historic building while giving it a positive use for the neighborhood.

But in Gareth's photo, the sun isn't shining out of it.

I pause for thought for a moment and consider some of the greats of investigation and research; those who bring to us what would otherwise be out of reach - Ludovic Kennedy; David Attenborough; Paul Foot; Charles Fort; Woodward and Bernstein; John Simpson; Dan Farson.

And I think to myself "I wonder if any of them have ever been propped up a wall with several men holding their buttocks whilst onlookers take photographs?"

                JB

                Er, perhaps Dan Farson...

                  thanks Rob, John and gang.

glad to know its not being left to fall down.

As for the evidence that is somewhat incriminating of Rob - well its all for the art!
