Some nice eastend photography on this site, including then and now shots. Its got a clever interactive map showing the direction the photograph was taken...

Personal photography site of images of the East End of London. Also includes photos of bands, world panoramas and portraits.

Can anyone put up a picture of 29 hanbury and a new photo of where the building stood with what is there now? I'd like to see the differences, especially if there is a picture of both from the same angle.

Not that clever, Stephen. It says COMMERCIAL ROAD on the bottom left!

    Hi Philip,

Yes, quite a nice book but my picture shows the entire East End content.

Here's a photo that JakeL discovered and cleverly identified as Commercial Road with the top of Berner Street showing bottom right, followed by a pic by me a hundred or so years later.

    Hi Stephen.

Thanks for buying me that book. I owe you a drink.

    It was worth a try...

    Hi Rob

Keep 'em coming please. I love 'then and now' pictures.

Here's a book I bought just a couple of days ago:

The book was published in 1969 and the very first picture in it just happens to be the one of Berner Street which was supposedly not discovered until 20 years later.

These are great, I am a little concerned that a roundabout has been built over the little boy at Cressy Place though.

Do you have any of Burdett Road, I am looking for either snaps of the road or any houses/shops.

    Regards Mike

Great idea, Rob. Someone could do a book using those techniques.

    East London: Then and Now

This is something I have been meaning to do for a while now. Just a continuation of what Winston Ramsey done in his book 'The East End: Then and Now', where he used an old photograph of the East End and took a modern photograph showing how the same scene looks today.
