wow i've spent all day on and off looking through this thread. There are some simply amazing pics, some have made me quite tearful looking at the lives people were leading, the girl with one shoe and the matchbox maker being evicted brought me to tears.
Some of the more modern photographs are simply stunning and atmospheric.
Theres a book by a midwife who worked in the eastend in the 1950's that has a couple of old pics of the area/people that i havent seen in here that i'll try to scan and post asap
Thanks for sharing these pics they really are fantastic and i LOVE this site!! Its so holistic and theres so much knowledge on these pages its really great.

Some photos I came across today:
Aldgate Pump August 1908
Aldgate High Street September 1908
Bloom Court, Blossom Street 1956
Chamber Street from Leman Street 1973
Kent and Essex Yard c1926. This ran North of Whitechapel High Street close to the West side of Commercial Street
Two photos of the wonderfully named 'Labour in Vain Street'
Lamb Street looking towards Commercial Street c1930. That's The Golden Heart in the distance.
Lambeth Street
Leman Street c1930
Limehouse Causeway November 1936
Lowder Street 1918
Maidman Street 1953
Mansell Street 1902
The old Watch House in Bethnal Green, June 1946
Pereira Street 17 September 1913 just before demolition. Pereira Street ran parallel with Brady Street, the tower in the distance belonged to the Albion Brewery in the Whitechapel Road.

Great stuff, Rob. Two things that jump out - how tiny those kids were in the pump shot, knowing where the wolf (?) head is today and secondly - wondering about the Aldgate High Street shot; can't work it at all. Is that the Hoop & Grapes on the left and does that mean the White Swan is shown?
Seeing these shots really shows you there was just so damn MUCH of it.
PHILIPTour guides do it loudly in front of a crowd.

Thanks Observer. It's practically unchanged. The pub is still in business if I remember correctly (The Brown Bear).
Regards
Rob
P.S. I love 35mm and slide film. It's the only way to take a photo but impractical and expensive if you take loads of photos and upload them onto a computer.
