Hi Paddy,
I love the Blue Anchor Yard photograph.
"You're never alone with a Strand."
Anyone remember that?

That one puzzled advertising people for years. The ad was so brilliant and popular that practically everybody in Britain knew and used the slogan but very few people bought the cigarettes. The Brand Recognition Factor just didn't work. Eventually they realised that the ad was actually sending out the subliminal message that if you smoked Strand cigarettes you were a sad b#stard with no friends.Originally posted by Simon Wood View Post"You're never alone with a Strand."

If that thing's wearing an astrakan coat {d'you suppose it's his own, or did he borrow it from a certain gentleman last seen November 9, 1888}, it's even skinnnier than most of its compatriots. An ill-fed parking meter in the heart of London? Wouldn't hapen today, Boris would never allow it......Originally posted by Suzi View Post'Tis!!!- disguised in an astrakan coat!"If you listen to the tills you can hear the bells toll. Hi here are a few more photos of the East End, I realise they do not have the interest of the Photos of yesteryear, but ehy do provide and insight into what the East End looks like today.
The first looks across St James place into Duke Street, it is possible the Ripper escaped this way after murdering Catherine Eddowes.
The second is an alley running off Artillery Lane, Jack the Sprayer has been at work.
The third is Little Allie Street, the rag trade still in evidence in the East End. Camelot fashions.
all the best
