    Hi Suzi,

The width of Whites Row and Dorset Street is almost identical.

I've got the finger on you mate!!! (well the bit that's not in the bin at work O M G !!!!!!!!) That's great though isn't it- just finished Fiona Rule's book and having tramped up and dahn those streets more times than is good for a girl it makes me want to do a daft sort of acetate overlay of Whies Row over present day Duval St............ just a thought........but where would we start? I reckon 8'-10' wide ish??? Gawd the things I do to take mi mind off of the 'er finger! (What's left of it!)

Well you've show me the finger often enough. At least there's one less pie for you to stick one in

I think I've read somewhere it's about 10 feet wide.

Great pics again, though the puns need working on, they made me Groad out loud.

Tee hee. No fear Monty, I'm glad he did. I have a horrible grey area when it comes to Spital Square and roundabouts. Shame on me.

Talking of which, I found some interesting photos (from the recent past) of Spitalfields Market when it was still ongoing.

These are from 1991. The first one certainly reminds me how messy Commercial Street could get after a day's trading back then. This is when the vagrants used to make a bee-line to the market environs to pick at the leftovers.

A couple of years ago I worked for a firm that advertised it worked "23.5" hours a day! When asked what they were doing for the other 30 mins they usually replied "Learning how to tell the time"

Suzi, Please don't watch "Hell's Kitchen USA" on Tuesday, one of the contestants cuts their finger tip off, and it gets lost in the kitchen!

I finally finished Paul Harrison's "JTR The Mystery Solved" which has a chapter on walking Whitechapel/Aldgate today, even though the book is a 1993 re-print, it is terribly dated.
                        Regards Mike

Some other bits I found on Flickr. This is what one could call lazy picture research, but it is always nice to see older snaps. These are only five years ago. Ignore the Hoody - he was part of the photoproject.

Now make your way down Berner Street. On your right, near the end of the road, you will see Dutfield's Yard looking just the same as it did in 1888.

                            Dated or De Locksley-d?

If it was De Locksleyed Phil it would be as you make your way along Bucks Row, which still stands, ...

...you can finish the rest off yourself.

I started to read this one a little while back and gave up halfway through the first chapter. Did this book ever see the hands of an editor or proof-reader? The actual solution may have lain within, the theory could have been utterly water-tight, and I'd never know, because I couldn't stand number of errors in spelling, grammar, syntax, etc.
