Yes, I've always thought the horse was siezed.
Of course, there's a well know case of PC Hutt and an ill looked after horse, and he operated out of Bishopsgate.

Now here's a good one, Robert...
I remember hearing the very first live broadcast from Radio One in the 1970s when a jolly disc jockey was at a school in London and invited the boys and girls to ask questions about 'pop' music.
The first question was 'Is Dusty Springfield a lesbian'?allisvanityandvexationofspirit

horses for courses
On the subject of horses (very topical the day after the Grand National), I was looking at this http://www.vintag.es/2012/02/john-th...in-london.html the other day, and noticed that most of the poor beasts looked in desperate need of some TLC. Par for the course given the time and place, I expect
Cheers!

You dont ask for much do you?
Below is the 1887 Goads for the station.
Out of interest, I was lucky enough to be in the station with Rob Clack only last month.

My main interest is in the interior, particularly the 'reception' area (in terms of what does it look like, general layout, feel).
Thanks so much for the help (and that photo site is great, isn't it. I'd seen a couple of the images before, posted on the boards here, but most of them were new to me).
Cheers!

Hi Stephen
I was on a primary school history trip a few years ago, and the kids were shown a cage which was used to hang up the dead bodies of thieves. A boy asked, "Is there still blood on it?"
Re Dusty, in "Island of Dreams" there is the line 'Far, far away from the mad rushing crowd.' In "The Way Love Used To Be" by the Kinks there is the line 'We'll find a way through the mad rushing crowd' and I'm wondering if Ray was subconsciously influenced by the Springfields song.

Harry,
Ive studied the station quite extensively in recent months.
The currently station was completely rebuilt, on the site of the previous one, in 1939. Its pretty much on the same footprint as the Goads you see there.
Ive some other images of the current station, PM me with your email addy if you wish to see more.

Harry,
I've some descriptive accounts of the station, by station clerks themselves, such as a complaint by Brown (Divisional Surgeon) about the fear of cholera, the cleaning of rugs in the alley and reports of coal deliveries.
Another reference is of drunk PCs return to their digs at the station and the disturbance they cause to other civilians living in and around Rose Alley and the station...Major Smith wasn't happy.

Sure Harry,
I think the interesting aspect of Bishopsgate Station cell layout in 1888 is the fact that the cells are set against a pub and that they are across a yard.
Eddowes had to be escorted from these cells, across the yard and back into the station.
You don't see that in any reconstructions of the incident.
Yes, I do have an anorak...why you ask?
