It also show Ringers – but not listed as the Britannia – just a beer retailer.
Elizabeth Stride used to drink in the Queen’s Head and Hutchinson said he saw Mary Kelly outside there before she was killed.
The last time the Queen’s Head is listed as a pub was in the 1927 Trade Directory

Close up map of 74-82 Commercial Street. This row is diagonally opposite the entrance to Dorset Street.
Three of the shop owners seem to have been Jewish in 1889 – confectioner, greengrocer, coffee shop. Presumably these shops were regularly used by the inhabitants of Dorset Street which rather suggests that Dorset Street wasn’t a hot bed of anti-Semitism as is sometimes suggested.

While browsing through the 1902 Electoral Register one fine day (today actually) I happened to notice George Lusk’s entry for 1 Tollit Street and checked to see when he left that addres. He is also registered in 1902, 1903, 1904 and 1905. He is no longer there in 1906.
When I got home I looked to see when he died (1919) from the Complete Jack the Ripper A to Z, and noticed it suggests he move to Caxton Street, Bow after being made bankrupt in 1891 – which can’t be the case. Maybe he moved to Caxton Street in 1905?
Caxton Street is now called Caxton Grove.

Hi Lechmere,

I suspect you are correct.

Lusks Bankruptcy Discharge hearing notice, advertised in the London Gazette, which by law should be put in 5 weeks prior to the hearing, was set for March 1895.

The address has to be current or, if not, state lately residing at.

As the hearing date was March 1895 he must have been at that address at least early 1895.

Some great photos there, of what is probably my favourite of all the JtR related locations. I was there myself yesterday. As well as passing through late on in the afternoon, I also visited the square with John Bennett at 2am, after a long jaunt doing night photos around the east end......
