You appear to have discovered the secret of how to make crappy old photos look immediate and modern and good luck to you. Sorry if this is a bit cheeky but could you please highlight Crossinghams on the Dorset Street picture.

The red lamp on the left is Crossinghams at 35 Dorset Street and the one on the right is the one at 17 Dorset Street.

Once again many thanks Rob. My reason for wanting a clearer image was the two far lamps. I found a photo (I'm sure you have seen it many times) on www.imagesofthepast.co.uk You can find it under streets. Ref: I-000109
A small London doss house, c.1902.
I cannot show it here as it is copyright. I just wanted to compare the lamps shown in that pic, to the Dorset St ones - on the very, very slim chance that this was Dorset St.
I'm still new to this tracing photographs and things, so please forgive me if I make a boob or ten along the way.

Hi Sean,

The photograph is from 'The People of the Abyss' and it's out of copyright now. It's not Dorset Street and is unidentified in the book. I do think it might be Little Paternoster Row which ran north of Dorset Street but that's just a guess. Number 35 Dorset Street was on the corner of it.

Thats excellent work, Rob. I didn't think it would turn out to be Dorset St, but I thought I'd ask the experts. I'm sure there are some surviving prints of it that are yet to be discovered, so I'll keep looking.
