Over 10,000 (Roman and Medieval) skeletons were discovered during the redevelopment of the Western half of Spitalfields market. I think that these are all in the MOLAS warehouse now.
Hello, Ade, and thank you for responding to my question.
I found that Times article to be confusingly ambiguous in some of its statements; it seemed highly unlikely that the city would choose to leave thousands of skeletons under the street if they knew where they were located.
(Though I'm sure that Times phrase "Walk over skeletons on your way to work" might sound very attractive to the more gothically-minded among us, lol )

Have you by any chance been to the museum exhibit?

    Thanks and best regards, Archaic

PS: Sorry, I almost forgot- welcome to Casebook!

          • Hello to everyone who has contributed such wonderful photographs on this thread. I was just wondering if there were any surviving photographs of The Britannia Public House that Mary Kelly used to frequent?
            Many thanks.

            • Hi Cerberusuk. Welcome to the boards!

The only picture I can think of is in the photo archive here: http://photos.casebook.org/displayim...lbum=15&pos=12

The Britannia is on the left of the picture.

              All the best
              Andrew

Thanks Chris, the police ambulance one was used for training purposes.

I don't think there's that much difference even now. The only notable difference I can think of is the Ideal Store building on the corner with Brady Street.
