    • Hi, Suzi.
I think poor Abyss was slightly afraid that an angry Karen Trenouth would come after him with her deadly trowel if he dared to use her Dore images...lol

      - Don't point that thing at me!

Abyss, I have found the old Three Stooges routine of the hand blocking the eyes to be a fairly effective safety measure against trowel attacks.
      Good luck.

      Cheers, Archaic

        Thanks for what?

New Years Eve was fun - I did this!

Went for a few drinks in these interesting old pubs. The Ten Bells. (I noticed they seem to have re-opened the public walkway by the carpark opposite!) Next, The Gun just down the road - nice old English pub, The Masons used to meet upstairs here, apparently you used to be able to hear them through the ceiling knocking things around performing ceremonies - there were certainly a lot of men in suits and black outfits - maybe they still meet there? Next - The White Hart in Whitechapel - had always meant to try this place, interesting interior - very long bar - barman got me a Guiness instead of what I asked for (Hoegarden) but didnt feel like complaining. Lastly, The Salisbury on St.Martins Lane just along from Covent Garden - British serial killer Dennis Nilsen used to drink here. Great pub and friendly staff.

        • Went for a wander around the east end on New Years Eve, and took a few pictures which I thought I'd share.

Polly Nichol's murder site has now aquired a small red cupboard, linked with the fire safety system of the London Overground platforms below.

Swallow Gardens is now occupied by a new business tenant, as can be seen in these three pictures. The guy I spoke to (in order to ask permission to take the photos), was not aware of the history of the arch he had recently taken on the tenancy for. He is now, naturally!

A view of the interior of Whitechapel Station. All this will be swept away when the station is modernised and rebuilt for the Crossrail project. Visible through the circular window was a glimpse of the board school on Durward Street, but this hasn't turned up on the image captured on camera!

                      Lynn,

                      Indeed. Fnarr-fnarr!

I'm a bit of a beer fan, so I know my quality porters from my mass produced fizzy "Watney's Red Barrel" types of so called beer....

                        • Lynn, Suzi, Andrew,

You have no idea how much I miss Theakston's Old Peculiar.
Every time I pop back, the first visit to my local is sheer heaven.
Perhaps I need an "East End photograph or drawing" of an OP to whet the appetite again! (stayed on thread there...just!)

Suzi, ask me one day about Party Seven...I have a lovely story from my youth re that...

                          best wishes
