I took some of Pinchin Street too, but they didn't come out too good...

And watch out if you're ever on a Ripper Tour - you never know who's behind you...

      Gunthorpe Street, obviously.

A few more from last night....

Abel's Buildings taken without a long exposure, giving a better idea of just how dark it can get. It's very creepy at night, you never know who's behind you...

          Pinchin Street Photomontage

Thought I'd post my first photomontage of an illustration mixed with a modern day photograph. This is the Pinchin Street arch.

              Cheers Mike!

              Here's another one....

I make no claims for the accuracy of my placing of the arch, but here's my interpretation of the old Shepherd's Place, or Tenter Ground as it's now known. As seen from Whites Row.

Which one do you mean Suzi?

John was sometimes behind me, and sometimes in front!

I'm happy to take requests for photomontages, as long as I have an old shot and a modern day one to play with!

                    All the best

He he amused by that prospect of John lurkin' there!!!

Alan Hart- Davis did a wonderful thing last night concerning the repair of Nelson's Column - (such a tiny piece being replaced as the pics show- would anyone have noticed to be honest!) and some great shots going up inside Monument- which for those who don't know was built to commemorate the Great Fire 1666 which started in Pudding Lane about 400 yards from Monument.
Scary stuff!!!- especially for those among us who don't do heights!!!

                        SUZI! Who's John Lurkin?

And go up the Monument! When you come back down they give you a nice certificate.

Anyway, here's a dribble from the Pathe archive. Whitechapel High Street at Gardiner's Corner - looking toward Aldgate in 1962.

A couple of London Underground pics which may be of interest. Apologies for the quality, these are photos of photos.

The old platform at Aldgate East, just before closure in 1938. This was the old station located at the southern end of Goulston Street, parts of which have reappeared now that the site has been cleared.

Whitechapel station in March 1941 after a particularly devastating air raid. The old board school building can be seen on the left.

Right! Two can play that game!

Here, with no hint of anonymity whatsoever, is John outside the Kings Stores signing a copy of his excellent book. The observant will notice how well he wears the "Paul Begg" style beard....

Oh Gawd, what a horrible sight. Looks like I'm having trouble remembering my name.

I should remind any future posters here that this is the 'East End Photographs and Drawings' thread. Not 'East End Munters'.
