East End Photographs and Drawings

I looked through every page and didn't see it, not to worry though there was some intresting eye candy.

Man in reflection of window was a fave, not to mention Ladies Underwear through metal security shutter, which had me chuckling.

There were some good shots and some rather strange shots but all in all quite relaxing viewing.

I enjoyed it, and it was quite inspiring, just trying to get the kids to sit still in an out of focus pile of road signs!!

Hi all -

I was sure that I recalled having seen a b/w photograph of a street described as "off" or "near" Commercial Road on this thread yesterday. I thought I could identify the location - but today it is as if the whole episode was nothing but a rather specific dream. Is the photo on another thread? Did I invent the whole thing? Any help gratefully received.

Thanks, but it's not any of them. I think it's likely to turn out to be a figment of my imagination - but I'll pop out in a minute and take a picture of the road I think the photo depicted in case this jogs anybody's memory.

I know you said b/w, but do you mean this one:



I think it is one of the roads that cuts across New Road, near the London Hospital. In the far distance is a pointy, tower thingy, which I think is the church near where St Mary Whitechapel stood. It's the nearest I can place the photo.
Assuming this is the one you mean.

Yes, this is absolutely the one I mean. I am off out now to track it down.

I agree, it's probably an east-west road between the Commercial Road and Whitechapel Road. Back in a jiffy.

Hi Rob -

Got it - it's Fordham Street, looking west from the junction with New Road.

Here's my version, taken from as close as I could get to the position of the original photographer. Note the door to number 47, on the left, with the stone steps leading up to it; and the little sequence of three windows just beyond this.



Here is the door itself - sorry for blurriness.

Thanks for clearing that one up. I think that's all the East End locations in 'The London Nobody Knows' identified now.
