Ah, what a lovely building. And it still looks the same now, with a bit of wear and tear. Thank God they ripped down the north side of the street for it. The picture above says it all, John.

Yes, this one does seem to fit Prince Charles' "carbuncle" comment. I don't know how many photos I have of that ugly building, all of them trying to capture a hint of a house that disappeared before I first got there. I have never actually gone into it, though. I think I heard, at one point at least, that it contained shops and coffee outlets. Anyone know what they currently use it for?

When the brewery moved out, it was an exhibition space for a while (I know because I saw Gunther von Hagens BODYWORLDS exhibition there in 2000) but now it's been gutted and lain with concrete and it serves as a car park most of the time (for public use) and a market on Sundays.

The foreshortening makes it look like that 'wall' is right behind the church - In fact it is quite a bit further north (near Bethnal Green Road) as it's the construction site for the East London Line extension.

Oh, those are very nice, John. I have to ask my usual question when I see photos that are much better than I could take: what camera and lens(es) did you use for the shots in (fortuitously numbered, eh?) post 1888?

Are these the staircases? If so, they look like they were open (like in George Yard) and later bricked up.

My camera's a bit simple - it's a Kodak EasyShare Z650. The lens is a Variogon 38-380mm (equiv.) AF 10x optical zoom. That's what it says on the side, anyway! I'm not in the least bit technical when it comes to photography.

Lovely photos John. Can you point out the location of no.29 please. And what great photos from the top of Denning Point;what a brilliant idea,why didnt I think o that. You can really see the line of the roads on the Fossan Estate. How easy was it to get access John?
