It's from the South-side looking East-wards. The build on the the extreme left is 35 Dorset Street. Three doors along from there on the North-side is a barely visible lamp. That's 'The Blue Coat Boy'.

Thanks for posting these excellent pictures! The second one taken in Fournier Street in 1980 really illustrates just how much renovation (and dare I say it, Gentrification) has taken place since then.

And as for the one of number 4 Mitre Street, I just keep wishing the photographer had panned round a bit to the left!

In 1888, No 4 Mitre street housed Copeland & Co, Oil and Provision Merchants.

The best I could come up with was that it was almost certainly post-1910 as none of those chaps are enormous like what Edward VII was.

Herr Bennett and I were walking past it on Sunday, trying to recall the building (which still stands). I remembered it as 60-something.

Hi Philip,

At 69 in 1912 there was a fire. The one your thinking of is number 62 the Millstein murders in 1911.

Just to add, 69 was on the North side and is now gone but 62 on the South side should still be there.
