  • PC Amos Simpson: Police career

    Hi,

Yep, another Simpson thread. Ive created this to solely focus on Simpsons police career, nothing else.

Attached is Police Orders dated 30th August 1881, in which Simpson is announced as acting sergeant, and that he is based at Cheshunt subdivision.

As suspected, Simpsons 'transfer' was down to the jurisdiction boundary changes due to the creation of J Division.

During these changes Cheshunt police station transferred from Y to N Division, and with it Simpson.

Finally, I can only find two entries regarding special duties for N division 1888, both dated after the double event (18th & 30th October respectively), I shall let you decide if police presence at Islington Agricultural Hall is Fenian related.

Also, I have checks the 1888 order for plain clothes work, and Simpsons name does not appear.

In fact, as far as I could see, his name does not appear in any police order for 1888.

Arthur T Dale used to put on shows and R Veneer worked at the Royal Agricultural Hall - a venue that still stands and which used to host big public events.

              Hello Monty,

Islington Agricultural Hall.. would that not be a DAYTIME duty?

              regards

If I may revive this thread.

I think it's fair to say that it is highly unlikely that Amos Simpson had the shawl away of that there can be no doubt. But something that appears to be overlooked and forgive me if I'm wrong but part of the argument for Simpson is the matter of Divisional boundaries. It is always documented when referring to him that N Divisions southern border was against the City of London border. But according to this map this is not the case as G Division is between N and the City? Is this correct? I assume that G Division existed in 1888?
