  • Was there a Police solution ?

That is a crucial question asked by Evans and Rumbelow in their "JTR SY Investigates" chapter 15.

    clarification

Hello David. This is an excellent idea for a poll. I wonder, however, what I am to understand by "police solution"?

    This could mean:

    1. "Did some person connected with the Met or the City of London figure out what was going on?"

    2. "Was there an official solution to the murders agreed to by all the upper echelons at both entities?"

    Can you clarify?

    Cheers.

Forget option number 2, Lynn, we know it wasn't the case.

Let's say : did one or several police official(s) knew more than others and figured out what was going on, or what had gone on (if they found the truth only after 1888) ?

        ze little grey cells

        Hello David. Thanks. That helps.

I think Monro had enough grey matter to put 2 and 2 together.

        Cheers.

            Hello David. Very good.

Unfortunately, as we well know, any such solution was kept mum by him.

            Cheers.

I don't know this, Lynn. What do you think he knew exactly ?

                Monro

Hello David. Well, reading between the lines of his comments, I would not be surprised if he figured ALL of it out.

                Cheers.

If there was a solution, it was one where no evidence strong enough to bring it to trial could be had. However, it wouldn't surprize me if someone did have an idea as to Jack's true identity (ies)

                    looking back

Hello Neil. Good to see you back.

Make that the same for me. It was then, as now, a case of looking back and trying to put together what had happened.

                    Cheers.

                        Hi Heinrich,

                        Au contraire.

                        The police succeeded admirably.

                        Regards,

                        Simon

                          police views

Hello Heinrich. I would agree that no one (so far as we know) was ever brought to justice, but still it seems that the police were making some interesting inroads towards a solution.

So, for example, I recall the "Times" article of October 2, in which the City Police were plumping for more than a lone killer. And in a Mepo file from a week and a half later, Sir Charles is speculating in a direction different from most.

                          Cheers.
