    In answer to a reader's query in July 1936 ex-Detective Inspector Brust of Scotland Yard gave the following answer which only goes to show that the senior policemen still all had their own theories on the Ripper crimes.

    Yes,and why shouldn"t they have had theories?
    But whats also interesting to see is the prevalence of this idea of him being a doctor and showing surgical skill-which seems to have been a pretty widespread notion.
    Surely ,if there hadn"t been fairly strong distinguishing features this idea would never have taken hold?
    After all,numbers of these policemen and police surgeons must have seen victims of violence and murder, and therefore been able to distinguish themselves between the "finesse and skill" Dr Phillips spoke of the Ripper showing in the Hanbury Street murder and "a clumsy piece of butchery" .
    And here we have an ex- detective,still convinced the Ripper was a doctor,joining a very long list according to the files in Kew .
