I believe that the possible use of "retinal photography" only applied to the Kelly murder. I emphasise "possible", because it's only Walter "Cuttings" Dew's reminiscences that we have to go on, and the question of whether the victim's eyes should be photographed arose in the Chapman inquest. A jury member asked the question of Bagster Philips, who replied that it would be useless to do so. Different versions of this episode were variously reported in the papers.
Personally, I think Dew latched onto this and tacked it onto his version of the Kelly story, just after his claim that he'd "slipped in the awfulness" on Kelly's floor. Unless he was limbo-dancing under the bed at the time, that didn't happen either.
