Is it true that the investigation was called off?

I saw a documentary recently that said that the police investigation into JTR was called off in late 1888, which makes you wonder if the police knew who was responsible for the killings.

I would really like to know more information about the investigation being called off if anyone has any details.

It sounds like they either arrested, killed or found out that JTR was dead.

That is incorrect. As far as I know the file is still open, but the police effort started to wind down after Mary Kelly simply because there were no more victims. There were a couple of flurry's later on but I believe simple cost meant it could not be sustained.

I think I'm correct in saying they virtually closed the book in 1892.
