    Authority on the beat

    Hi all,

    Just a simple question.

Under what circumstances, if any, can a policeman instruct another policeman of higher rank to do something, apart from relaying previously instructed higher orders?
    Just wondering.

    Thanks.

If in the same chain of command he can't.

There are two ways to be fooled, one is to believe what isn't true, the other is to refuse to believe that which is true.

I would think that if for example a PC has evidence that someone senior to him committed a crime, he could effectively remove the senior officer from his appointed duties to question or arrest him.

              Hi Phil,

I am thanks, I hope youre the same. I see merit to your suggestion, but what if we have a ladder climbing constable?
