to my mind the indentations of the third and fifth line are not original.

I’m agreeing with you and Halse now, Kattrup.

He has indents and centering on the first and third line.

If it can’t be explained away, and is then the reliable version, it can’t help but make a difference, especially with “nothing” centred in the bottom.

I guess I have to go with where the evidence takes me and that’s back to the wall, and away from Warren and the door jamb story.

It also takes me to a new set of possible indents that need investigation as possible clues.

I'm an average person, and I've definitely used that convention. I'd scan some examples from my old school books to prove it, but frankly I can't be arsed.

Excellent - that also clarifies what Halse meant by a dado. Two pieces of enlightenment for the price of one. Bargain!

May just be me but I find it odd that a piece of graffiti that was made to goad/incite Jewish people in the area was rubbed out for fear it cause others to attack Jews on masse instead. Why would anyone attack Jews and/or wreck the building for graffiti that was making a jab at them in the first place?

The context is everything, and in this case it might be that the police saw a sort of call to arms in that GSG, the author suggesting essentially that Jews are getting away with...whatever. Or everything. This could be a combination of antisemitism and people feeling overcrowded in what they perceived as their own neighborhoods. I think the threat was seen as a pushback against both of those.

I also think that its possible the author was saying that the Berner Street Jews were trying to evade blame for what happened there on that same night, which would then mean he is suggesting that it was someone there who probably killed the woman. If he is also the man that leaves the apron section, for me, its a confirmation on which murder(s) he, the Mitre square killer, committed that night. Hes saying it was probably the Jews there on site. He had over an hour to learn of this murder and come back out and place the apron and/or section. Gets even more interesting if the Mitre Square murderer isn't Jack either.

This doesn't appear to help my case at first glance but it's the premise I will work on.
