It is quite a plausible theory when you meditate on it.
Perhaps he wore the womens clothes underneath and when he took the organs he took off his man clothes and hid them in that. Which would also explain why no one was seen covered in blood after the murders.

Is this an established fact? No one was covered in blood? How do we know?

The character of Jamie Gumb in the movie Silence of the Lambs was based on real life serial killer and transsexual wanna be Ed Gein. Gein however could not sew as good as Gumb was supposed to be able to in the movie. He had to settle for capes, masks, and leggings made from human skin. He did not use the uterus from his victims, instead he preferred to take the vagina, so that he could wear it with the rest of his costume. This is how he was able to pretend he was a woman. Now! put the lotion in the basket.
