Precisely! :-) By the by, I got his bank account and everything, courtesy of Debs. I was hoping for your help pertaining to Rachkovsky, what with the Palo Alto files and stuff.
But first I have to take care of some really boring bureaucratical sh*t all day today (on 4 different godamn matters!!), which I'm not looking forward to in the least...

    • Dear Boss Letter Backing Sheet

I have had some discussion with Keith Skinner over the Dear Boss letter and its return to New Scotland Yard in 1987. Keith noted that the image I reproduced of the envelope in this thread was cropped and did not show the full backing page to which the envelope and letter were attached. Keith thought that it might be nice to show everyone the whole letter and backing sheet in its original form, with annotation, so here it is. (Image - Evans/Skinner Crime Archive).

      • Thank you Mr. Evans, and thanks to Mr. Skinner. The backing sheet and its annotation were added by SY?
        Best regards,

Anyone familiar with the 'Jack the Ripper' letters in MEPO 3/142 will know that these annotated sheets bearing date/posting details and reference numbers were attached to the letters at the time they were received at Scotland Yard.

            • Hi Stewart,

Thank you for the pics of the DB letter and envelope as seen in 1987.

I am however slightly confused. As by 1987 the letter had been missing for donkey's years, what is the origin of the colour version of DB on Casebook, which appears to be from a time when the letter was in far more pristine condition?

              Regards,

              Simon

I thought that this had already be touched upon in this thread. The colour version on the Casebook site is the 1888 police colour facsimile and not the actual letter.

                • Hi Stewart,

Thank you. I had a feeling I recognised it.

I've only seen the facsimile in black and white, plus a sort of sepia version. I didn't realise there was a third full-colour version.

                  Regards,

                  Simon

                  • Thanks, LC. Hadn't seen that article before. Here's one which suggests that Hurlbert could use some alleged knowledge about Parnell and Pigott to blackmail the British government.

Hello All. Looks like the "Dear Boss" is not the only time WHH was involved in a letters controversy.

Snippet from "Oakland Daily Evening Tribune" July 27. 1989.

                            Cheers.

Hello All. I have located a Professor Daniel W. Crofts who has studied Hurlbert's writings extensively. Naturally his book has been purchased.

I have also sent him a message.

                                Wish me luck.
