The following is from the Oakland Tribune of 4 December 1890 - thought it might be of interest

I notice that the body of the article denies that Dam concocted the Ripper letters, but that the sub-heading denies that he concocted the Jack the Ripper stories. That's interesting, considering it's been suggested both that he faked the letters and that he invented the Leather Apron stories.
