"In London t'was Jack the ripper; in New York, Jack the nipper; in San Francisco, Jack the skipper; in Chicago, Jack the kisser, while in Denver it's Jack the miss-- her, as the unfortunate female, and her name is legion, always succeeds from escaping from her nocturnal assailant and falling plumb into the outstretched arms of a sheltering policeman, informs him that she ain't very much hurt but the fellow scared her so, when he hit her over the head with a sand-bag."
I'm not sure if this is a reference to "the Denver Ripper" attacks on prostitutes, or a critique on the latest melodrama, but will keep looking. Thought you folks might enjoy seeing it, anyway.
