Hello Everyone
Exciting news to follow soon as we continue to invite speakers and firm up the lineup for the weekend. Also exact information on the registration and hotel costs will be announced.
Meanwhile, here is a recent vintage postcard purchase of mine, relevant to those of you who are interested in taking in an Orioles baseball game while in Baltimore. The renovated Camden Yards Station of the B&O Railroad is now part of the Camden Yards complex where the Orioles play. Historically this was also part of a violent railroad strike and riot in 1877 which pitted railroad workers against the B&O management... one of a series of riots in the 19th Century that earned Baltimore the reputation of "Mobtown."

Hi all
My colleague, Janis Wilson, and I are continuing to crunch numbers for the April event to come up with a final registration price and exact arrangements. Meanwhile we are pleased to continue to announce speakers who will appear at the event. One of the speakers will be Michael L. Hawley talking about Dr. Francis Tumblety and, we hope, appearing on panels on Tumblety and on Ripper fiction, which is one of Mike's interests.
This morning, Janis and I visited a hotel not far from the Maryland Historical Society where we hope the Friday reception and Saturday banquet will be held. Again, complete details and more speakers to be announced shortly.
Best regards
Chris

New speaker announcement --
Janis Wilson will discuss "The Truth About Ripper Fiction" and will also chair a panel on Jewish Ripper suspects at RipperCon upcoming in Baltimore, April 8-10, 2016. Complete details on the event to be announced shortly.
Janis Wilson is a Baltimore-based Ripperologist and author of Goulston Street, which is expected to be available in 2016. A former newspaper reporter and trial lawyer, Wilson took the Ripper Tour in Whitechapel some years ago conducted by Donald Rumbelow. The tour allowed Janis to appreciate how the world-famous slayer managed to repeatedly escape capture. After extensive study of the Ripper, Janis taught a course at Temple University in Philadelphia about his exploits. In addition, she has lectured on the Ripper on several occasions and continues studying the literature about him. In addition to her writing career, Janis is a commentator about true crime for the Investigation Discovery Channel and has appeared on such programs as “Deadly Affairs” and the “Nightmare Next Door.”Christopher T. We are pleased to report that our keynote speaker opening the event at the Maryland Historical Society at 9:00 am on Saturday morning, April 9 will be eminent Ripperologist Martin Fido speaking on "Ripperology and Anti-Semitism."
I asked Martin what he meant, whether he meant anti-Semitism at the time of the crimes in the autumn of 1888 or later, and this is his reply --
"I really mean the Ripper-linked anti-Semitism that has occurred since Kosminski and Cohen were publicized as serious suspects. (This has led to some vandalism in East End Jewish cemeteries and the withdrawal of at least one valuable researcher from Ripperology among other things). But the lead-in would certainly include explaining why the Jewish connection was actually important in the case from the outset."
Full details of our event to be announced shortly.
Best regards
