Just listened to the PodCast , great stuff. Been flat out for the last week and a bit so took a while.
Chris sounds like he belongs in the Beatles
Not sure why you let the Brian bloke on though
My friend Robert always says I sound like Ringo. Over in Liverpool they are not so sure.
As for Brian's voice, he could be selling a quality liquor or a fine cigar.
Cheers
Chris
P.S. Here's another podcast. Not Ripper this time but War of 1812. My Northern Irish co-author John McCavitt and I talking about our newly published book, The Man Who Captured Washington: Major General Robert Ross and the War of 1812. Go to http://historyauthor.com/2016/03/man...ed-washington/
If it does become a biannual event, is it planned to be the same time each year?
Still trying to work out how I can get
to one.
Hi GUT
The British conferences are usually held in the second six months in the year so it was conceived when we held the first U.S. conference in Park Ridge, New Jersey, in 2000 that we would hold it in April. So yes, at present, the concept is to hold the American conferences in the Spring.
Dr. Charles Tumosa's topic at RipperCon will be "The Forensic Time Machine: Looking Backward." The talk will be about using current forensic techniques to examine Victorian cases.
Dr. Tumosa received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, in 1972. He worked at the Philadelphia Police Laboratory from 1971 to 1989 examining evidence in crimes of violence. He retired there as head of the Criminalistics Lab in 1989 and went to work at the Smithsonian Institution. At the Smithsonian's Silver Hill facility he set up an analytical laboratory and gradually morphed into a research position examining cultural materials and determining ways to preserve them. He retired from the Smithsonian in 2006 and in 2007 started working at the University of Baltimore (UB) in various teaching capacities and is presently the Director of the Forensic Studies Program. At UB he also instituted a Certificate Program in Document Examination.

RipperCon co-organizer Janis Wilson in "Evil Stepmothers" on the Investigation Discovery Channel repeats again at 1:00 am Thursday morning and the documentary will air again on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
RipperCon co-organizer Janis Wilson will appear on the Investigation Discovery Channel tonight at 10:00 pm talking about "Evil Stepmothers." It will probably be aired again at 5:00 pm Saturday. Check it out!
Janis is a Baltimore-based Ripperologist and author of Goulston Street, which is expected to be available in 2016. A former newspaper reporter and trial lawyer, Wilson took the Ripper Tour in Whitechapel some years ago conducted by Donald Rumbelow. The tour allowed Janis to appreciate how the world-famous slayer managed to repeatedly escape capture. After extensive study of the Ripper, Janis taught a course at Temple University in Philadelphia about his exploits. In addition, she has lectured on the Ripper on several occasions and continues studying the literature about him. In addition to her writing career, Janis is a commentator about true crime for the Investigation Discovery Channel and has appeared on such programs as “Deadly Affairs” and the “Nightmare Next Door.”

If you have not yet caught it, RipperCon Long Island Serial Killer (LISK) speaker Robert Anderson and I recorded a podcast interview with Quincy of the Talk 2 Q Radio Show to chat about RipperCon in Baltimore, April 8-10. The podcast also features an appearance by Buffalo native Brian Young (aka Steadmund Brand). To listen, go to alturl.com/buudf.

Speaker Sarah Beth Hopton (Mary Pearcey/Jill the Ripper) has had to withdraw from the event. Instead attendees are going to be treated to a presentation on forensic science by Charles Tumosa, lecturer in the University of Baltimore (UB) School of Criminal Justice Forensic Studies program. When I approached Charlie about speaking at RipperCon, he remarked, "Sure, why not. I've been a fan of Victorian crime for a long time." For more on his views on criminal investigation, see "The Art of Investigation: Painting a Picture of Applied Forensics" by Paula Novash (University of Baltimore Magazine, Summer 2011). Also a video interview with Charlie about forensic investigation of art at https://vimeo.com/52946678.

Interesting interview with RipperCon speaker Michael Hawley in the Buffalo Spree. Mike besides being a writer on the Ripper case is a high school science teacher and a Christian evangelical but nonethless a believer in evolution.
"Into the raging battle between religious belief and scientific reasoning rides a peacemaker carrying a bible in one hand and an Archaeopteryx fossil in the other. His name is Michael Hawley, and as an evolution-defending evangelical Christian, he’s something of a walking oxymoron. The retired U.S. Navy commander and aviator is currently enjoying a second career as a science teacher at Tonawanda City High School. Armed with an extensive knowledge of biblical scripture, Hawley claims that religious belief and science are compatible, at least where it comes to the book of Genesis. . . . His reasoned arguments on the evolution/creationism dispute are outlined in his first book, Searching for Truth with a Broken Flashlight (Aventine Press). In a clear, personal, non-confrontational style, Hawley defines the differences between the scientific process and religious dogma, clearing up many misconceptions about both along the way."
If you have not yet caught it, RipperCon Long Island Serial Killer (LISK) speaker Robert Anderson and I appeared on Thursday on the Talk 2 Q Radio Show podcast to discuss RipperCon in Baltimore, April 8-10. The podcast also features an appearance by Buffalo native Brian Young (aka Steadmund Brand). To listen, go to alturl.com/buudf.
As announced earlier, there is a March 15 deadline to sign up for RipperCon. If you are interested in attending, do so now!
