2012 JACK THE RIPPER CONFERENCE ANNOUNCMENT:

It gives me great pleasure to announce dates for the 2012 Jack the Ripper Conference in York.

The Conference will take place on Saturday 29th September and Sunday 30th September 2012.

As you will already know, this falls exactly on the dates of the Rippers DOUBLE EVENT 1888.

In keeping with this, the tag line for the conference will be “THE DOUBLE EVENT.”

We already have the hotel venue and evening event booked for the stated weekend.

We have a great team behind us working everyday behind the scenes on this event and we aim to make this a great weekend for all attending.

Further details, speakers and bookings will be available in the coming weeks.

I would like to thank the conference organisers :

    Richard Cobb (Lead Organiser)

    Andrew Firth (Graphics and Design)

Jenni and Neal Shelden (Conference Pack)

    Adam Wood (Advisor)

Bethany & Renee Therriault (Conference Secretaries and Logistics)

So, here’s to a great conference in one of the most historic cities I have ever visited.

    Regards

    Colin Cobb (Conference Organiser)

    THE DOUBLE EVENT

    29th and 30th September 2012

I like the timing. The Olympics will be over, it's the anniversary of the Double Event, and September 29 is my wife's birthday. (Perhaps I can convince her that a trip to York is part of her birthday celebration...nah, probably not.) I'll start saving my pennies.

I've heard that York is very charming in parts. Almost like going back in time. And that the locals are friendly to tourists, even Americans. If anyone has some atmospheric pictures of York, I'd enjoy seeing them on this thread.

      Yours truly,

      Tom Wescott

How about an evening session at the conference entitled "How to Take Atmospheric Night Shots, with Andrew Firth". (The participants would, of course, fund frequent stops at the best local pubs.)

No kidding. Look at the depth he can get where it seems what's right in front of the lens and what's furthest away are in equal focus and equally rich with detail. It's a good thing Firth and his camera weren't on hand in Millers Court, or else we'd all be having serious nightmares.

              Yours truly,

              Tom Wescott

Nevermind all that, is Betty's still there!
I've been the the tearooms in Harrogate, many, too many, moons ago but never got to the York one.

                        Hi Dustymiller,

Yep, Betty's tea rooms are still there, always a long queue to get in.

OH I soooo want to go. Question is, can I force my company on a cousin I´ve not spoken to for twenty years? Well, I can try!

                              Cheers,
