    • "Killer graphics" - very appropriate - lol

      Howard and Nina will be attending Ally, which might sway your decision (one way or the other)

      Hi Sherlock

      I seem to recall mention of an Australian "conference" which I suspect would be more like the London/Cardiff jobs

      Adam Went and/or Jonathan Hainsworth are in Australia

      I think it was Adam who suggested a Druitt related conference as of course, Lionel Druitt emigrated to Australia

      Australia is very big as you know so I don't know how viable it would be for you all to meet for a reasonable price depending where you all live

          I had no idea when your bull's-eye lightened my darkness that you were actually Monty, whose sprightly postings I've loved for years!

              Ha, yes I'm the very same Martin,

              Must say, it was a pure pleasure giving you a demo of the Bulls eye lamp. One of THE moments of the conference for me. Along with the sing song at the bar (you must send me the words) and our cricket chat with Mr Storey.

              And thank you for indulging me, twas a pure delight.

              Monty, NB, the Bulls eye man,

              • The sexual life of the camel
                Is stranger than anyone thinks,
                For in the mating season
                He tries to bugger the sphinx;

                But the sphinx's back passage is narrow,
                And blocked by the sands of the Nile,
                Which accounts for the hump on the camel
                And teh sphinx's inscrutable smile.

                (Tune, the Eton Boating Song.
                Did I also sing Kafoozalum?)

                  Brilliant Martin,

                  Thank you.

                  It was Kafoozalum (Kipling?) I was referring to yes.

                  • Hello Martin

                    NB, Monty, as you correctly implied, has been shining a light into the dark corners of Ripperology for many years. I am delighted that you finally had the chance to meet him. Sorry Donna and I could not be there for what sounds as if it was a splendid event.

                    Best regards

                    Chris

                          Well won't really sway the decision per se but will be nice to see Howard again. Don't remember if I've met Nina, probably have, but my memory is, how do you say, Shite?

                          I am considering combining it with a trip to Edinburgh if I can find some wool outerwear and several pairs of wooly unmentionables. My florida wardrobe just doesn't cut it in the frigid ninth circle of hell, otherwise known as Britain.

                          The only time I was warm the whole weekend was when totally drunk!

                          Let all Oz be agreed;
                          I need a better class of flying monkeys.

                          • I am so disappointed at missing this conference. It would have been wonderful to catch up with old friends and meet a few new ones.

                            Saving my pennies for next year!

                              Hehe. If you thought York was cold, wait till you try Scotland in November. My motherland is famous for many things, but utterly Baltic winters is pretty much near the top of the pile. And let's not forget the driving rain...

                              • Yes, it was not for nothing that the British were known as the "Hyperboreans" by the Greeks - meaning the people who live beyond/behind the North wind

                                That the Druids could show the Sun worshipping Greeks and Romans a place where the Sun doesn't rise for 6 months, and the wonders of the Aurora Borealis, I think it's safe to say that they "Shite their pants"
