    Hi, C.D.,
Wow! I totally didn't notice the Stride pun in “purpose in our stride“! (Which, as a matter of fact, is a turn of phrase which originated by The Grave Maurice...)
    Hello Claire,
I got back fine, thank you, but I just got back to Berlin right this second. My trolley case is still donwstairs ('cause the surfboard comes first).
    Best regards,
    Maria

Nope. I talked about "walking with a purpose"; the stride thing was AmmanValleyJack's.

Still, we were located closer to the Brittania and Miller's Court that to Berner Street. I didn't have time at all to go to Berner Street. I actually very much wanted to go there at night, but with all the partying going on I somehow got my priorities totally out of order!
            Best regards,
            Maria

Some say neither did Jack. It was either that or 'Did you at least have time to get ears for police?' Ugh. I know Sam Flynn, and I'm no Sam Flynn.

Laura Prieto is in most of the photos, but her name is not familiar to me. Is it possible I know her by another name or message board name?

                  Tom,

If Laura is in most of the photos my wager is John took them.

Laura has joined us on a few London Jobs and has been present at the last 3 conferences, filming the 2007 (and yours truely) for Spanish tv.

She has also done some filming for the Definitive Story documentary due out this December, though I believe this is for the DVD.

Cool, thanks Monty. I take it she's John's woman? He certainly looks more comfortable standing next to her than he does standing next to Jeff Leahy in the latest issue of Rip, where he seems to be aggressively protecting his private space.

                    Yours truly,

Who's the quizz machine? I wasn't yet there on the evening of the quizz. And apparently I missed out on some yummy food on the Pub's menu, including Scottish eggs (whatever they are – imported from Scotland?)

                      To Tom Wescott:
Laura Prieto is a filmographer (is it how they call it?) and John Bennett's significant other.

And here goes the award to the newbie's dumbfest: I didn't notice Paul Begg was there until here on the thread, through the pictures!!!
                      Best regards,
                      Maria

no, i meant in the evening of the actual conference. there was a quiz machine in the very corner between the door and the bar that i spend a considerable amount of time and money on. and it robbed me!

Oh, and just so everyone knows, I was NOT inquiring about Laura Prieto because I wanted to hit on her. LOL. Just curious because she was about the only face I didn't recognize who wasn't named.

                          Yours truly,

                          Tom Wescott

                            To Tom Wescott:
If you'd hit on her, John Bennett would probably hit you.

                            To AmmanValleyJack:
I don't even know what a quizz machine is, and I'm so sorry to have missed it between the door and the bar, but I'm afraid that “between the door and the bar“ is too short a leap for me.
But honestly, I was so stupid to try the “buy 2 glasses of wine, get a free bottle“ deal at the pub, TWICE, and even without having finished the second bottle, when I went to bed everything was spinning. I'll NEVER try this again, ever. Is this a typical British pub deal, 'cause I've never encountered it before. I know of many places which feature “all you can eat“, “surfer's food double portions“, etc. but never “all you can drink“!!
(I think Rob Clack was briefly under the impression that I had a problem with alcohol! He looked a bit worried, even!)
                            Best regards,
                            Maria

yes. The UK loves a good binge drinking and these deals are available all over the country, kind of "happy hour" deals. hence causing a big increase in alcohol-related problems as people take advantage of deals "too good to give up".

a Quiz Machine is a small machine similiar to a gambling machine where u put a pound in and answer questions on a screen...if u get loads right u win money. im kind of addicted to them and whereever i go i tend to watch poor people lose their money then once they go, using my quite decent general knowledge skills attempt to win back all the money these poor saps put in. it normally works. except in that damn Kings Stores. it wasnt having any of it. So i went and got drunk in a temper

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me! It started under the principle “Wow, SO cheap“, then “You bought it, you drink it“, then later on when I went to bed everything was spinning like for hours, and for days afterwards I couldn't even smell of white wine! “Happy Hour“ they have everywhere in the world, but they make it start too early on purpose. When it's still light out, I rarely feel like drinking alcohol yet...

Maybe someone ought to manufacture a quizz machine with just Ripperological quizzes...!
                                Best regards,
