Hi All and happy new year!

My own take is that most people are not interested at all and many are not even aware that he was real, thinking him to be a bogeyman of some sort. Ironically, more people probably think Sweeney Todd was real than JTR!

A friend of mine who is a doctor responded to my telling him that I was reading a new book on the case by saying, "He was a royal wasn't he?"

When I attempted to go into my full speel he cut me off immediately and said he wasn't interested! A good reminder to all of us that the world does not revolve around JTR.

Another colleague was confused when I told her that JTR was long dead, saying that she would have expected it to have been a big news story. Further digging revealed that she was talking about the Yorkshire Ripper!

Both stories reminding us that we are involved in something which is of passing (if that) interest to most people!

    regards,
If I have seen further it is because I am standing on the shoulders of giants.

      book

Hello Phil. Thanks for posting that.

Scott Nelson posted on the other site just how many years you have studied the ripper. We agreed that you would be missed.

But perhaps you have a book in the works?

      Cheers.

        Hi there,

I'm in the middle of filming a documentary with Trevor Bond on the Ripper tours which has meant interviewing not only those who lead the tours and those who go on them, but also local residents and businesses.

There have been some very interesting comments from all parties, and not all as you might expect.

We're hoping the documentary will be released at some point this year and I'll post updates on Casebook.

        Best wishes
        Adam

The Flying Scud has been knocked down. It was on Hackney Road and I went there a few times in the 1980s.
During the First Gulf War I am sure a darts match was set up between the Flying Scud and another pub - I think the something Patriot.

              Hello Lechmere,

Just a quick reply..about the Flying Scud. Legend has it that it referred to the NAME of a ship, depicted on the outside of the pub. Infact, the scud, "flying" it refers to is the white wave tops being created by the bow of the ship as it ploughs through the water.. "scud" being an old term for the white foam created.

Correct, on the Hackney Road and ?Brittania Road? junctions? (from very bad memory, forgive me). It was a tiny, triangular pub. I recall.

              Hello Lynn my friend,

Please thank Scott for his kind words... an all who think so kindly of me. I do not deserve it. I doubt if I will be missed, especially in some quarters, one feels sure...haha!.. But apart from that, no, no book in the offing...not research a la Ripper orientated at least. Perhaps another type of offering..who knows?

              Stay well all. :-)

Ah, very MUCH missed. Where else can I get a great discussion about pudding?

If you ever go back to SKYPE let me know.

                Cheers.
