    Hi Wulf,

That's funny. I'm actually reading this book at the moment.

I'm only around a third of the way through, but can post thoughts once I'm done.

I saw that Rob Clack (whose books I love) had slagged it off in an Amazon review, so I approached it with low expectations.

If I'm honest I'm actually quite liking it though.

There are a couple of small errors and Steve is no literary giant (sorry Steve - but I don't think you're going for Tolstoy on this though anyway?!) but it is a really engaging read, and the premise of considering how modern day investigative techniques would be applied to the murders is fresh and new.

    So far, I'm pro.

Purists may disagree (and I predict they will).

I'll be interested to see what Herlock and Pat think when they have read it too.

I have also received my copy, but haven't delved into it yet. Looks nice, though!

    Hi Wulf,

Not yet. It’s sitting in a pile of 6 or 7 books.

Hi H, there are now a few reviews on Amazon, one of which is pretty scathing. It's possible to read the first couple of chapters free on Amazon and I can sort of see where the reviewer is coming from. The facts of the case seem to have been embedded in a sort of story telling scenario with invented dialogue. Although some people will like this, I suspect others will totally hate it. As the target audience seems to be none specialist/general interest, I can appreciate why it has been done that way and I don't have too much of an issue with it. I will reserve further judgement until someone who knows the case well like yourself can give some feedback. My main interest is what the profile says TBH.

    Hi all,

I posted last year to say I was writing a book and am pleased to be able to tell you it's out next month.

I'm a former detective inspector from the Met Police and spent the last 12 years of my career investigating murders. Prior to that, I policed Whitechapel. I also investigated terrorism, so feel quite an affinity to Frederick Abberline, having shared a similar career path.

My book looks at how we would investigate these crimes should they happen today. Incorporated into that I look to answer three questions:

    - Which crimes did JTR commit
    - Why did he commit them
    - Who was he

I'm also pleased to say the National Crime Agency has contributed their first ever 'criminal profile' of the killer. In the UK, the NCA provide advice to police forces in major investigations. Part of that includes the provision of crime scene assessments and predictive profiles. Only three people in the UK are qualified to perform that role, one of whom contributed to the book (with the full support of the NCA).

The book is primarily aimed at those without a deep knowledge of the cases but I'm sure there are parts that some here would find of interest.

I found casebook.org to be a tremendous help in my research, so thank you to those that run this site. I also had a couple of questions that people were kind enough to answer.

The book is called Murder Investigation Team: Jack the Ripper, and is available to pre-order on Amazon and most other sites.

Thanks again and for those that do decide to read it, I hope you enjoy it.

    Best wishes

    Steve

Hi Steve, I notice you have a 'who was he' question on here. Can we expect another hyam hyams style reveal next week or is this just in general i.e. the new profile what sort of person was he? Not that I'd expect you to give anything away if there was. Thanks
