  • Observing the jewish sabbath in 1888

    Hi all
I'm not a religious person and cannot claim to know much about it but can anyone shed any light on this.
The Jewish sabbath which is said to be a rest day is between sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday
It had me wondering how the Jews of the Eastend marked such a period?
did they keep their shops open?
What did they do during this rest period?

    Thank you

I have no idea. I did read that Aaron Kosminski refused to pay his dog muzzle fine on the jewish sabbath and had it deferred to Monday by the court. Aaron was of course very much an immigrant having been born in western Russia and come to England as a teen so his jewish roots were still very much intact.

But his nuts may not have been if he kept that dog unmuzzled.
