Yes. 'Theydon' is infact 'old English' for 'valley where thatching materials were got', with a French suffiix from a family name ( literally meaning 'of the wood').

It reminds me of the place Herstmonceaux in Sussex -an old English word 'Hurst' meaning hillock, is given a French suffix 'Monceaux' -meaning a pile or a heap, and then pronounced 'mon-sue instead of mon-so by the posh locals.
