  • Ripper Coach Tours

Hi. Basically I didn't know any better and booked myself and my mrs on a Ripper coach tour. Overnight stay in London, visit three sites, fish and chips...Then I listened to a podcast and heard that the WORST tours are those that are given to coach tour parties who go around at a pace so as the group can be taken for the fish supper.

Anyone have any first hand experience of this kind of tour?

Needless to say I now hope to take a second tour with a smaller group and a better informed guide. Unfortunately I paid up front before I realised that there were better options available. Any advice appreciated.

Jon, Near Cwmavon, Wales. researching MJK.

Never experienced a coach tour, so can't help you there but there is definitely inaccurate tours out there.

Last month I was sitting at the park bench at Mitre Square, a tour came and stood around me while I was eating my lunch.

The tour guide was talking about the murders of Liz Stride and Kate Eddowes, so many inaccuracies . The guide even pointed to the wrong spot where Kate died and how her body was laid out.

What time is your tour at? If it is in daytime I would strongly recommend doing another tour run by ripporologists at night.

Its not until October and it is in the evening. Nearer the time I'll try and arrange an alternative tour I think. Don't get much free time due to work so don't want an ill informed person passing on erroneous information. I was already dubious about cramming so much in to such a short period of time and the podcast comments by Phil Hutchinson (I think) have worried me now! Thanks anyway Garza. I'll definitely need to have a think.

Nothing like a bit of a walk about the place to give yourself a proper impression of where the sites were. If you don't get a chance to book another tour (although it's probably worth it), grab a map and mark yourself out a route. Don't forget to head towards the Thames and check out MJK's old home on Breezer's Hill, just off Pennington street, since she's your area of interest. I'm quite fond of it down there Then nip back through Wellclose square, since lots of conspiracy theorists like to name it, and get drunk for charity at Wilton's music hall--it's not improved any since back in the day. Oh, and enjoy your fish and chips
        best,

Thanks for that Claire. I'm booked with Edwards Coaches so being local to me you've probably heard of them. I'm seriously thinking of getting a Megabus down to the smoke and seeing which "real" tour guide is in the vicinity and making a weekend of it. And you were right it is the MJK sites that interest me so thanks for the info.

I don't drive unfortunately so public transport is the order of the day.

They seem to be cramming a lot into the tour even though it is advertised primarily as a JTR tour. At least the London Eye will give me a good view!
