  • Thinking of moving to Whitechapel........

I currently live in Beckenham, south-east London and am looking for a new flat - I have no particular ties to this area (I DO work here - but am looking for a new job) - was considering moving to Aldgate/Whitechapel - finding little studio flats for around £700 a month on Commercial Road and am seriously considering moving there - is this taking my interest in Jack too far do you think? Especially seeing as I can get a place where I live for about £200 less! I just love the idea of being walking distance to all the sites, all the pubs I love (The White Hart, Ten Bells, Dirty Dicks etc) and of course all the history and architecture........

Thoughts? Anyone here done anything similar?

Nahhhhh I would love to live there for a bit.
I know Beckenham actually as I went to school in Chislehurst and my Dad went to Beckenham and Penge Grammar School. My Nan still lives in Bromely.

        Adam,

You might want to have a word with Mark Ripper (m_w_r).

        He lives in Whitechapel.

        All the best
        Andrew

          Yes! (you are mad)
Get a place in Snaresbrook or somewhere like that - 15 minutes on the tube.

Why not? It's not just the Jack stuff that's interesting; there's tons of other stuff on your doorstep, a walk into the City...lots of markets, pubs, theatres, galleries, sites of historical interest either immediately nearby or a nice walk away. Seriously, were it not for the fact I've 3 kids (entrenched in school) and prices therefore become slightly absurd, I'd move back in a flash. The only way we get to preserve the London we want is by using it, and patronising it. No good living in the burbs and then complaining when Spitalfields becomes an Apple store and a Vodafone shop.

            Good luck!
            best,

              Adam,

Claire has it absolutely right. If you want to do something, believe me, do it while you're young. Besides, we could use blokes like you to speak up for the East End. Apparently they're reconverting all the historic pubs!!

I think it is high time you changed your name to Paddy Power

Forget that, mate. I'm sticking with my moniker. Just because the developers move in doesn't mean I have to change my name to Paddy Wagon, or whatever it's now called.
