Sounds pretty fantastic Mike.....my kinda weather!

I've got a rather tasty looking can of Vegetable soup in the cupboard.....think I'm going to fire into that.

The did have cans of Veggie soup in 1888 yeah? Trying to make this as authentic as possible inspite of the laptop.

        Dave,

I remember that. As I recall, they ran out of 20 year old Highland Park after day 6 and were forced to drink 18 year Cardhu. Poor sods.

        huh?

Minus 8 Celsius? Minus 8?! Geez, we still wear shorts and sandals in that kind of weather. Pansies! You should live in a country where, for four months of the year, every time you go out in the car, the only thing between you and certain death is the heated leather seats. Now that is roughing it!

Seriously, though, cold is no fun if you're not used to it. Glad to hear that you're coping, Dave. It could be a Christmas you'll tell your grandchildren about.

Hello Dave. You are right. In fact, looking over the ads, little has changed in five quarters of a century.

                Cheers.

It's all quite inspiring in a way Maurice......great to hear stories of folk helping each other out....especially looking after the old folks in the community.

My Mum & Dad (Who I have not seen for a fortnight now) have been helped fantastically by their neighbours.....getting them food, clearing their path and driving my dad in their 4x4 to the hospital for his dialysis.

The old wartime spirit kicking in.

Good idea. Although, if we all moved to Florida, our combined weight would break the state off from the mainland and it would drift to Cuba. Que pasa?

I bet a guy/girl could stay warm for months burning Ripper books with no evidence in them or more than 60% speculation. Dave

The cold weather is not very nice when you are trooping around railway cuttings for a living. Erm, I'm going to justify my whinging here by pointing out most the railways in Kent follow more or the less the same paths that they did in Victorian times. (And in some cases roll on the same rails). Brrr.

Minus 17. That's more like it. That's a decent temperature for this time of year. Speaking of drams, though, I recently came across a very bonny dram called Talisker. Apparently it was R.L. Stevenson's favourite tipple. You can smell the peat from halfway across the room. Extremely tasty, I thought. Anyone tried it?

Talisker is decent drink. I haven't seen it in ages, but then again, I've scarcely been in civilization. It must come from the Inner Hebrides, maybe Muck or Eigg, but I can't remember exactly.
