  • Did Jack the Ripper care if he got caught?

Do you think with two Police forces, that Jack the Ripper really didn't care if he got caught or not? Afterall, I think even with ONE Police force any serial killer would be slightly intimated? But two Police Forces AND a Vigilance Committee all looking for him, do you really think he even cared if he got caught and just murdered any prostitute he saw fit till he did get caught?

For all we know, Jack the Ripper could've committed the murders just for shits and giggles. And who knows if he actually killed only prostitutes... maybe he killed others as well but prostitutes were his favorite... Kind of like me, I'd eat any salad anyone would give me, but my favorite and the one I eat the most are salads that I can create (a salad bar).

    Darktale,

If the Lusk letter is indeed authentic and, as your movie Ripper points out to the boyfriend, the phrase "Catch me when you can" sounds like he definitely didn't care if the Police caught him or not. All he cared about was removing as many as of the prostitutes as he could in a grisly fashion.
I won't make any deals. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed,de-briefed, or numbered!

If he hadn't been very careful about not getting caught, then he would have been caught.

Maybe not. If we look at police work in 1888, it really was in its scientific infancy. It could be very possible to disappear and as police officials will tell you, eyewitnesses can be notoriously unreliable. I believe that short of catching him in the act it would have been a hard go in 1888 to catch let alone prosecute Jack the Ripper. He may not have been as careful as many believe he may just have been lucky. Neil
