  • Two Marie Jeanettes

Hi - this is my very first post on the forum, so I hope I'm doing it right! Also, I doubt that I have hit on something completely new here, so there may have been a previous post on this subject, but I have had as good a search as my newbie skills will allow, and haven't been able to find anything, so apologies if this has already been discussed. If it has, please could somebody direct me to the answer?

On the List of Deaths in Whitechapel, December 1888 document, I noticed that there are two 'Marie Jeanettes' listed - MJK, of course, and then Marie Jeanette Davies, both aged 25, both listed on page 211. Now, I know that MJK was supposedly married to a man called Davies when she lived in Wales (if this is indeed true) and so I assume that this is something to do with that - but if so, why the duel entry? Are they definitely the same person, or were there perhaps two 'Marie Jeanettes'? I know that Mary and Jane and even Kelly were incredibly common names at the time, but Marie and Jeanette were presumably less so?

Can anyone explain this for me? If they are indeed different people, I'd be interested to know what Marie Jeanette Davies died of. I am a beginner at research as well as Ripper-stuff, so some advice on how and where to look is always welcome!

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello RB. Welcome to the boards.

I think your conjecture of duplication is correct.

    Cheers.
