  • Other names help please

Hi all, could anyone give me other names that "Ladies of the night" were known as during the JTR time period? Especially how they would be known in the media or in court. This is purely for search reasons.

    Hi,

I think "unfortunates" was one of the most popular euphemisms for prostitutes in the LVP.

      epithet

Hello Chud. Sometimes, you'll also see the epithet, "Women of the lowest class."

      Cheers.

Personally, I'd go with a Seamstress. Dollymops or laced mutton I'm not so sure about.

                Slut.

I live in Tulsa. Spell it backwards.

                Yours truly,

                  Hello chud,

I was going to say "Frippet" but that term didn't apparently come in until 15 years later. It is a variation on "Crumpet".. not exactly prostitute either, but nice none the less.

                  best wishes

Like Bolo, I'd stick to just "unfortunates". That seems to sum up their situation perfectly.
