    As murders of this kind in England were tried under Common Law,any sentencing would be set by precedents.If none existed the presiding judge w ould s et one.In the Ripper's case,I would consider a verdict of'Commited while the balance of his mind was disturbed'as a probable judgement,and he would have been s ent to a mental institution.
