After 22 years I just re-viewed The Secret Identity of Jack the Ripper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUkMjcCmD4M), including commentary by Martin Fido and Donald Rumbelow. It may be the best of the half dozen or so I’ve ever seen. In your view how well does this hold up; does it miss anything important (it “confirms” Ripper washed hands in basin after Eddowes; as far as I can tell, it seems to touch on all the salient points. Your thoughts?

Hi All,
I just watched it on You Tube with no copyright problems at all. In the light of all we have learned since 1988 the documentary hasn't stood the test of time, but it was nevertheless good to see Martin Fido chewing the scenery.
Regards,
SimonNever believe anything until it has been officially denied.

I remember watching this when it aired "live" on TV. Having seen it at that time, there's a contextual element that shoud be shared....
Near the end of the show, they had the "phone in" poll to see who most people thought was the most likey suspect. Note that Sir William Gull receives the highest percentage of votes (25%).
This is because when it originally aired, this particular show followed the Michael Caine "Ripper" movie, which implicates Gull.
