Wanted 1st ED Matter's The mystery of Jack the Ripper

Hullo,

Do any casebook members have a first edition copy of The mystery of Jack the Ripper that they would like to sell?

The money is waiting under my bed and I would sooner buy the book from someone on the casebook than a stranger.

I have found one, the seller wanted 119 quid but upon enquiry they said I could have it for 95 including delivery. Could anyone who knows about such things tell me if that is a fair price please.
The book is described as follows-

Description:

First edition of 1928, with 10 illustrations and 5 diagrams on plates. Red cloth boards, worn and scratched, starting to split on edges of spine. Spine faded. Front hinge cracked, FEP cut away, and plates for the most part loose but still present. Some loose pages worn on edges; contents otherwise clean and sound throughout.

Sorry to keep harping on about JTR books but I cannot help myself. And Iam desperate to own Matter's tome.

It's up to you, mate. Books are worth whatever the buyer thinks they're worth. All I know is I bought a copy in much better condition than this a couple of years ago for about US$100.

If you wait a while, reasonably-priced copies in decent condition surface in various places from time to time. You don't have to build your whole JtR collection in a few weeks.

Hi Doris,

If you really need to own a copy of the book then I guess you will have to part with the money.

However if you only need to read the book, your local library should be able to obtain a copy on inter library loan, costs vary but I guess you should get change from a fiver.

Iam not that interested in reading the book to be honest.
I just wanted to own and gloat over it.

But I said to myself if the coin came up heads I would buy it, and the result was tails, so I have bought a load of books about workhouses, 19th century treatment of criminals and the insane, and ripper era maps instead.
