  • Fiona Kendall-Lane

    Hello everybody.
I was looking through old threads and was very interested in talk about a certain Fiona Kendall-Lane who was a desendent of Kell'ys landlord, and who posted on the casebook and gave a talk to the WS1888.
I was wondering if the lady ever gave her permission for her talk to be shown on youtube (I can find no trace of it), if she still posts on here, and if the book she was planning about her family was ever published?
If anyone has any information about this I would be grateful to hear of it.
    Best wishes,
    Sean.

      Hi Sean,
As far as I know Fiona -Kendall Lane, vanished from Casebook after only a couple of posts, this was brought about [ bitter taste] by remarks implied by a few members, that appeared dis-respectful .
The only person she placed trust in was Coral C/O Ws1888, and she did indeed give a talk , but one got the impression shied away from personal questions concerning certain matters, which may have been used in a possible forthcoming book
That has yet to be established.
Initially it was an intention to ask Fiona for permission to ''You Tube'' her talk via WS1888 web site, but that also has never came to pass.
The good lady, great grand-daughter of McCarthy [ Kelly's landlord] posts ,gave us a great insight into all possibly goodies, however as soon as she implied all her relatives [ included herself] knew who the killer was , and the motive, comments reared up , which gave Fiona a feeling of being ridiculed and consequently left her short visit to Casebook.... and frankly who can blame her?
I personally was thrilled by her posts, and did my small part to discourage her, from leaving, but the very fact that her great-grand -father , was the famous McCarthy, and her grandfather was his son, who knew MJK,who witnessed his mother parcel up Kelly's belongings to send to her brother[ who was in the army] and the very fact that McCarthy senior send a stranger packing from the court , who was after Mary Kelly for stealing a Valuable item [ watch], seems to be of no concern to those hecklers who obviously found that information not to their taste.
Personally I felt saddened by such opinions.
      Regards Richard.

So what was her relation to Justine Kay Kendall McCarthy, the actress who died of leukemia while married to Rex Harrison? I just came across her in an old movie book I was looking through today. It doesn't say much about her family other than that her father was a dancer and that she had a sister.
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.

There is a lot about Kay on old posts, before the crash,
John McCarthy's son John became a music hall performer and changed his name to Steve, Steve married one of the great music hall stars, the very beautiful Marie Kendall, they had four children, but the marriage was not happy, one of the children Terry, was the father of Kay Kendall, he was on the halls as well. Kay had a brother.

Thanks for the replies and information. I've heard bits and pieces of this story; it would be cool to be able to read or hear more of it.

Were all of the threads in which Fiona Kendall-Lane participated lost in the crash?
If Ms. Kendall-Lane ever reads these boards, I hope she realizes there are many of us here who would greatly appreciate the opportunity to hear more of her family history, whether it's in the form of posts, a letter, a dissertation, a videotaped talk, or perhaps an article or book.

I am still occasionally in touch with Fiona.

It was very sad and despicable that she was bullied away from these boards. Those who did that should be ashamed of themselves.

As far as I am aware her book is still an on-going project. Fiona inherited a lot of documents from her half-sister and Fiona wants to incorporate them into her book. The half-sister lived with John McCarthy for the last 12 years of his life.

Hello Coral. Thanks for offering that information.

I love history, and my father taught me to love family history too. I know from experience that family history projects have a way of continuously e-x-p-a-n-d-i-n-g as you go along!

Like many others here at Casebook, I look forward to the day when Fiona feels ready to share her family research, in whatever mode or manner she chooses.

                  Best regards,

                    .

Aha! One of my favorite subjects! I too hope that there will be a book some day. That whole fiasco ranks very highly on my "disappointment list". Come back Fiona!!!!!

p.s. even if the information she had turned out not to be true, at least it is a Ripper tale passed down that is as close to contemporary as we will ever get.

                      Exactly Brenda

Fiona has been/is the only person connected to a comtemporary figure connected to JTR to come forward & give info. And some idiots drove her away.

I have always thought that if somone is telling 'porkies' they will soon trip themselves up and be proved wrong. We should all play the waiting game.

                        .

What I find most devastating is once the people with the memories are gone, they are gone and their memories with them. I am interested in hearing a Ripper story told by elderly relatives that were actually there!!! I want to hear what other people were hearing at that time.

I feel the same way about people that saw Jimi Hendrix in concert....these people are starting to become rarer to find. I want to know what they thought about Jimi Hendrix, not if he was wearing the red bandana and taking the purple acid (or was it red acid and a purple bandana?)

                          Hi Archaic .

Just for information, B, I had a front row seat for Fiona's talk at the WS and a most fascinating talk it was. She prefaced it by saying that her publisher had told her not to discuss her family's info regarding JTR so I would imagine that there is indeed a book in the pipeline. Being one of the first people to see her photo of McCarthy was quite something as you, as a lover of history, can no doubt imagine. At the next meeting I had a most pleasant and instructive private chat with her and can say that she is a formidable person and not the 'shrinking violet' that some people here imagine her to be.

                            Hi Stephen, how are you?

Wow, I wish I was at that Whitechapel Society meeting to hear Fiona's talk! What year did that occur?

Since you saw the photograph of John McCarthy, would you say it strongly resembles his 1888 newspaper portrait? I always wonder how accurate newspaper sketches are.

                            Thanks and take care,

The lady you are talking of claimed to know who JtR was. Fiona didnt just have evidence against an individual; she actually knew who the ripper was. She was simply challenged on this, and some other posts she made. Seriously, if you believe this to be bullying you are an idiot.

Perhaps in her "project" she will eventually let us know who the ripper was.
