  • What profession?

    Hello all,

If you had to guess, what profession did "Jack" have? The poll is as fair as I could get it...well, all's fair in love and war so they say!
    Just for jolly :-)

    best wishes

    Hi Phil,

"none of the above" - but I do have clues.

    Amitiés,

      Jack's profession

      Hi Phil,

I voted none of the above, though I think he had regular employment in a menial job of some kind- clerk, janitor, bookeeper. He probably had and STD that was being treated occasionally too. Just speculation, of course.

      Best Wishes,

        Hello Hunter,

I thought of that, but didn't have enough catagories to play with. I was going to put "quack" "artist" "writer" "social benefactor" "librarian" amongst others.

        best wishes

          Profession

Well, I always liked to think he did have some anatomical knowledge (although I know that is highly debatable) but I also feel he was local and not well educated, so I'm torn between doctor and butcher.

I'll go with Doctor right now, but not Doctor Gull.

Since I'm reading up on my Barnett, I've gone with Shopkeeper/Butcher/Market Porter/Baker (sort of a butcher I guess, fish is meat). However this view is most likely temporary, I'm not convinced about any suspect yet

              Hi Synicalx,

there were two Joe in Mary's life.
              Better choose the bad one...

              Amitiés,

                Hello synicalx,

                Welcome to the boards!

Well, after 40 years, I am not convinced either... but I do have a pretty good idea who DIDN'T do it.. and my favourite for that title, is the cricketing naughty boy, Druitt.
And David is right... Joe Fleming is a very fair call. Certainly better than many others!

                best wishes

I see you don't have "upholsterer" on the list.

                    Hello Pontius,

Thanks, I didn't actually think of that. Well, James Kelly IS a possibility, yes... but like I said, no room for everything... hahahaha

                    best wishes

                      Indeed, Phil

let's take Fleming again: plasterer, dock-labourer, and even costermonger (according to Venturney).
