Thanks for the kind words Looby. IF...and that's a big if, I was ever to get this possibly made with the ability to cast some big named people I'd have to choose the following for a few.

    Stephen Rea as Frederick Abberline
    Stephen Fry as George Godley
    Eddie Marsan as Michael Ostrog
John Hurt as Sir Charles Warren
Sir Anthony Hopkins as Francis Tumblety
    Alan Rickman as George Chapman
    Simon Pegg as Walter Dew
Kate Winslet or Cate Blanchett as Emma Abberline

    Justin

Will Robert D'Onston Stephenson be making an appearance and do you need a Hull born thespian for the role.

          Mike,

I do believe that he's in the final draft. There's a total of 12 suspects in the final version. For some of you on here, here is a few snapshots of the 3D model of Berner Street/Dutfield's Field. The models are created in Google Sketch Up and I use these models for measurement purposes so when the scaled models are built the production team has something to work off of. Enjoy.

Good attempt....here are some suggestions though.

1). Who do you think Jack the Ripper was? Are you writing Abberline's story or your thesis? If you are writing a thesis, identify someone-other than that you're just writing a documentary. Be bold! Name someone. People want a resolution. Look at From Hell, Murder by Decree, or, one of my favorites, JFK. People want some sort of justice.

            2. Too much exposition. Screenplays are a visual medium--visualize. For instance, in the scene where the detectives are talking about the victims, have them write it out on a chalkboard. Or how about an over laying map of the crime sites. Secondly, viewers are not stupid--they know what's going on.

            3. Too many flashbacks---instead of flashback to each murder, show it in "real time." And remember, be visual---show how graphic these crimes were. Don't be sensational about it--Hitchcock did more with imagined violence--but be shocking...how about a knife swishing through the air, each time covered with more and more blood. How about a really graphic autopsy scene?

            4. Plus, writing is nothing more than re-writing...rewrite and edit...

            5. Try to eliminate some characters...especially the police. Everyone knows that Abberline wasn't at every crime scene, but he could.

            6. How about some scenes from the Ripper's POV?

              Gman,

Thanks for the constructive criticism/words. It's greatly appreciated.

              1. From what I was doing at first what I wanted from the first draft was to have it so that the Ripper was someone who was unnamed and that the audience, for themselves, would make their own assumptions. With rewriting the final draft I re-worked it so that the audience will know who he is within the last 15-20 minutes of the script. For Autumn of Terror, David Cohen is protrayed as being The Ripper.

              2. For the final version in that scene I was able to extend it a bit and visually explain it more.

              3. I also realized this and re-worked it back into the final script. Plus there was more emphasis on the graphic qualities on the crime scenes, etc.

              4. Often going back and re-writing a draft of a script such as this I find plenty of errors all the time. In most cases here I actually found a chance to do more visualizing in some scenes which helped.

              5. The number of "scene locations" in the final script are around 189. Abberline is in 53 of those. Although he was pretty much in the rough draft a little bit, I toned down his appearance without cutting him out too much. From my perspective I wanted him to be one of the main characters, also giving other inspectors, etc who did as much work a chance to be explored in itself such as swanson, dew, etc. The problem here is originally this was written from a police perspective in being involved but once more, in the re-writing of the final draft that I decided a more "generalized" perspective.

              6. In the scene of where Catherine Eddowes is being murdered, in the final draft that portion was extended to be more graphic. The way the scene itself is described, not only is it in the Ripper's POV, but its a full 3-4 minute depicted scene showing and explaining what he did to her. Probably something that, if filmed, would just barely make it under an R rating, being as close to as what you could get.

              Much thanks.

              Regards,
              Justin
