It's all about the Yankee dollar, Simon. I'm just hopin' I can fool enough old crackpots out there into buying my book so I'll have money to buy AP's Spanish Brandy warehouse and Paul Begg's pub and go into business for myself serving all the old crackpots driven to drink by my poorly reasoned arguments. It's a no brainer, and I'm the guy with no brain, so it can't fail.

    Yours truly,

    Tom Wescott

The last thing I saw that was inconvertible was a Riley Elf saloon, but Tom sort of tells it like it is, or something like that.
One begins to see that if you question Tom's version of events, ya get a mouthful of abuse, and then blow me down ya get Ally swiping heads on his behalf. As someone just said, one expects something bigger, and not smaller; and the world just got very small indeed.

Ally has never done anything on "my behalf". Everything she's said on this thread is true and her views are shared by an overwhelming number of posters too polite or afraid to say anything. I'm all for trimming the dead weeds, and the Stride threads need that like no other. Maybe some of the people with something valuable to say will return to the Stride threads now that their primary reason for staying away is gone.

        Yours truly,

        Tom Wescott

          Hi all

I've got to say I am confused and that although I had no run - ins with Michael, Tom and Michael have been at each others throats for years and Michael gave as good as he got.

Yet now he has decided to leave and Tom (and Ally) speak out about him people seem quick to portray them as bullies, for wont of a better word.

Seems to me the choice to leave was Michaels, he wasn't ran off the boards.

Ps By the way Tom you know my ideas on Liz Stride's killer.....

(I can see Tom banging his head against the computer desk, thought you were going to get some peace now Michael was gone didn't you?)
It's not about what you know....it's about what you can find out

Whatever you like to call him,and 'Jack the ripper' is as good as any,and however many individual killers you imagine there to be,there was a Multiple killer operating on the streets of Whitechapel during late summer and autumn of 1888,and in my opinion, beyond that.

Indeed Nats. All the more reason for us to rely on the community to help us maintain some contact with reality. I personally have gained great benefit ( and am very grateful for ) the feedback of other students of the case. We could all come up with some clever ripper theory that fits the facts. The feedback keeps us from believing our epiphanies on any aspect of the case, is in fact the only possible reality. This is a danger of any intuited understanding of humans, and it is good and proper that our community provide some mechanism for restraining this known feature from rampant expression. You should not ( and I believe cannot ) allow the criticism of others to be personal. Even if the criticism is worded in a personal manner, you as a person have the option of how you interpret it. Interpretation that leads one to believe criticism is personal only serves to make one feel badly about themselves, when in fact the thought is what is being questioned. Asssociating your self esteem to your ideas is dangerous. Respectfully Dave

Indeed, that was what I was saying, Michael gave as good as he got and it was his decision to leave the boards.

As for being touched by spirits mine tends to be more the alcholic type!!

                      Thanks for your time

Very true and very well put. That should be the mantra of many on here.

                        Hi Teej,

Got your PM and good to see you around. No worries about taking your post the wrong way. There've been posters, mainly Swedish, who I've gone at it with for long periods of time, but not the same as Michael. He got progressively stranger in his theorizing and simultaneously became more and more aggressive. Hopefully the next person of that type who comes along will be a Mary Kelly nut. Ha ha.

                        Yours truly,

                        Tom Wescott

Having discovered that my profile here is still in fact active despite my request, I thought It might offer me an quick opportunity to say farewell a little more graciously to some fellow posters before its closed down.

The insults are not why Im leaving, and anyone who asks questions that get such responses should not feel inclined to ask fewer of them, nor set aside a belief they may have. Its about a starting point that to me bears the responsibility for a burden of proof that has not been met. I’ve never asserted that any of my suggestions were correct and others were not in any absolute, empirical way...just that I felt that they were often more probable answers than some rather baseless preconceptions about the nature of what’s actually being studied and what the crimes themselves constitute in terms of legal criminality.

There is a constant from what I’ve found inside the Ripper industry, its far better to live with what cannot practically be than to suppose what may be. I think people like Simon and AP keep the hope alive for some unified new ideas.

Thanks for all the discussions, big and small, and the sharing of very fascinating information.

I do leave with the knowledge that its quite possible some of my ideas may be shown to have been accurate in the near future, so Im sure you’ll understand if I no longer see the need to argue about these matters.

Best regards to you all and thanks again

I've almost always disagreed with you, but will miss your posts and your personality.
                            Hope you'll soon be back.
