  • Nick Warren and the pheonix park murders theory

Has Nick Warren's theory linking JTR with the Pheonix Park murders ever been taken Seriously or was it written with tongue in cheek?
Apart from his article that appears in The Mamoth book of JTR, I have never seen it replicated in any other books, other JTR historians have completely ignored it which seems odd because Mr Warren is considered a respectable JTR historian...isnt he???

Seems a very unlikely connection to me. The Phoenix Park stabbings were surely politically motivated? The ripper killings, for me at least, have the hallmark of a sexual sadist, driven by anger and lust and the need for control.

I do not think Nick is a regular contributor the this site. I expect he visits to read posts now and then though. I really only know of them through the publication of Ripperana.

The way I read it though, was that he was only implicating Mary Kelly, thus making her seperate from the other victims.
He also implies that it was possible that the murder weapons were left at the scene of the crime, is it possible that certain pieces of evidence were held back from the media and public as is done today ?

Nick Warren has made some notable contributions, including his theory of a possible link between the Phoenix Park murders of 1884 and the Ripper murders and his contention that an axe may have been used in the mutilation of Mary Jane Kelly's corpse to hack at her right femur. His recent article alleging that the late British TV personality and UK Ripper convention host Jeremy Beadle might be partly responsible for the Maybrick Diary is something else again and the accusation seems to have been made on weak circumstantial evidence.

Now that is intresting, when I read P H Feldman's JTR The Final Chapter some years ago, I noticed J Beadle's name in the acknowledgements and always wondered if he could be involved knowing of his history of practicle jokes and hoaxes...Many Thanks for that. I have had a long lay off from JTR and need to do some catching up

I have been reading about the Phoenix Park Murders in my searches ref JTR. Those murders were carried out with 'dissecting knives'. (and as an interesting co-incidence the victims throats were slashed ferociously 'to make sure' by Timothy Kelly!)

There were a few female witnesses who were 'sent out of the country' after the trial and execution of the murderers.

I would guess that the only one of the JTR victims who would fit the bill would be MJK (taking likely age as a guide).

Obviously there were males who gave evidence against the 'Invincilbles' too - Carey (shot by O'Donnell) and another chap who was 'assassinated' in America which was where he had sailed to after the trial was over.

I haven't looked any further than this so far. As MJK seems to have a 'history' that only goes back to around 1883/4 the timeline fits too. I have some of the female names but I just wondered if this has all been looked at in any depth, i.e. would I be wasting my time trying to trace Emma Jones, Alice Carroll et al after the trial and execution of Brady, Kelly, Curley and the rest? I know effigies of Alice were burnt in Dublin.

If this stuff has been gone into can anyone direct me where to look to see what was discovered?

            Thanks

This is the first I've heard of this accusation against Jeremy Beadle. How horrible and pathetic it is. What recent article? I thought Ripperana ceased years ago. Was it published somewhere else?

Nick Warren once wrote in Ripperana that Americans should not write on the Ripper case, as the case doesn't belong to us. Very offensive, particularly considering the number of JFK articles he published in Ripperana.

              Yours truly,
